After getting changed, we went for an Indian buffet at Bombay Blues. Then we were off to the West End: Byres Road, Tennent’s Bar—not to be confused with the brewery: we had ‘real ales’—the Kelvingrove Museum and Art Gallery, and of course BrewDog Glasgow. To sober up a bit again, Old Salty’s came to the rescue with calamari and steak pie with loads of chips.
The gang is complete now! After settling in at the hostel or apartment, we went to The City Cafe for dinner, then for a little walk and some drinks.
A fine start of this trip, I’d say.
Near Victoria Coach Station there aren’t many nice places to eat or drink, but the previous times I was here, I hadn’t much choice due to the limited time I had. Since I arrived a bit early, I had enough time to venture a bit deeper into Pimlico, to a nice Turkish restaurant I found on Foursquare in preparation for this trip: Cyprus Mangal. Their karişik kebab dish was just what I needed.
Then I noticed a craft beer pub nearby — CASK Pub and Kitchen — and since I still had time for a couple of pints…
Had a very nice lunch at Babu Bombay Street Kitchen with the Glasgow friends I met during my last visit.
On my way to BrewDog, I stopped for a cask ale at The Three Judges. Couldn’t resist ordering “Indiana’s Bones” when I saw the iconic hat on the tap label! 🙂
Old Stag Inn, 12 Greenview Street, Glasgow,
Located in what is known as The Stag Building (Architect Thomas Baird 1862 – 1953), The Old Stag pub was first listed in the Glasgow Post Office Directory of 1889-90.
The licencee at this time was Mr John Lyns, who took over the license from D McCafferty between 1886 and 1888.
The Stag Building was erected in 1905 by John Lyons to include housing and shops. Original shops were Carmichaels Chemist and Dougie’s Dairy.
